Amazing collection of Amsterdam history. The building looks great, has lots of original and authentic characteristics and most areas are free of charge. Downstairs they show a really cool photo collection and videos, all located in the vault are. A must see if you’re in Amsterdam.
Free entry exhibition. All the text is in dutch, but still worth a quick visit if you're nearby. There's a cinema playing that shows regular life from the old days.
Back to the 80's nightclubbing. Nice small exhibition about Roxy, Mazzo, De Koer and more famous clubs
Some of the texts aren't translated to English. But overall I loved learning about the past of this city. Especially the simulation of how the city grew was awesome.
In the former vault was an exposition about the creation of Amsterdam, its high and low times. It is mostly prints and pictures and sadly only in in Dutch.
It follows the creation of Amsterdam and how it grew. For none native speakers it wil be hard to follow but the prints and pictures are interest and the vault in its art deco style is amazing. Unfortunately the exhibition isn't wheelchair friendly as it contains several stairs.
The Municipal Archives of Amsterdam. It might not sound very exciting, but the place has some interesting exhibits, and the best part is that they are free. When I was there there was a changing exhibition about the children of Amsterdam, and a permanent exhibition about the history of Amsterdam. The permanent exhibition is in the basement, in a building that used to be a bank (and you enter it through a cool vault). The place also has a café, souvenir shop and other surprises
The best archive I have ever visited, and I have visited quite many around the world.
Free and very interesting to go inside, if not for the exhibited material than at least for the outstanding architecture. Do visit the vault room in the cellar as it will wow you.
